September is also about what's new, the things to see and do in Bromont. And this is just what our newsletter is all about: keeping you informed on what's not to miss!


News from City Council

  • Note that City hall's opening hours are now back to the regular schedule: from 8:45 am to noon and from 1 pm to 4:30 pm Monday to Friday.

  • Here are the main items of the City Council's meeting of September 2nd:

    • The City is now in the process of reviewing the town planning regulations. The Council shared the decision to add more public hearings to what is already required by the ministère des Affaires municipales, Sport et Loisir. As such, public consultations will take place in each district of Bromont and citizen will also be invited to express their concerns on the Bromont.com website. More information will also be made public in the next issue of Voici Bromont which will be devoted to the reviewing process.

    • Many events recently took place in Bromont and complaints concerning the peace and quiet of certain neighbourhoods were made by groups of citizens. The council has asked the city's administration to review the situation in order to prevent certain events from disturbing the quality of life of many Bromonters.

  • With special events of all kinds, international competitions, a phenomenal raise in residential growth, Bromont seems to be more popular than ever. Officially launched in French a year ago, the Bromont.com portal is the complete source to find out what Bromont is all about.

  • The Bromont ville branchée fall 2003 computer training program is now under way.   • This week meant back to school time for 369 little ones who attend La Chantignole school and 318 at Saint-Vincent-Ferrier. To the parents and students, wishes for a wonderful school year 2003-2004. And may this be the beginning of happy schooling years for the children who just started kinder garden.

  • A reminder that le Service des loisirs, de la culture et de la vie communautaire's complete guide to Fall and Winter community activities is available online. Those wishing to subscribe must do so directly with the person in charge on the activity. The subscription period in now in progress until September 6.

  • September is a busy month for Le Club horticole de Bromont:

    • On September 9th, a special evening during which prizes and awards will be handed out to the winners of the Maisons fleuries 2003 contest. Following this, a conference given by famous gardener-horticulture specialist Larry Hodgson on how to integrate wild plants to your landscaping project (Aménagement sans effort avec des plantes indigènes).

    • Initially scheduled to take place on August 26, the a workshop titled " Bouturage et hivernation de plantes annuelles " (How to plant cuttings and winter annuals) by Mrs Pelletier, florist at La Panière has been postponed to September 16th.

  • «Saveurs et couleurs» is truly a celebration of life in the Eastern Townships, the flavours and beauties of this part of Québec. Visit the festival's website to find out more on what you are invited to discover!

  • On Sunday September 14th, all bromonters are invited to join the festivities of the Old Village Fair. Following the 10 o'clock mass at Saint-François-Xavier church, many outdoor activities organized to cater to party goers of all ages will take place on the grounds of the presbytery.   • The Bromont Fire department is seeking candidates to fill a volunteer firemen opening. The fire department will provide the proper training to the chosen candidate. You believe you have the necessary assets? Contact the Fire department at 534-4777 for more information.

  • L'auberge du Badouillard has extended the presentation of the play «Petites nuits-un homme, une femme, une télécommande…» until September 27th. Written by local resident Diane Jules, the play pokes fun at a certainly interesting topic: men-women relationships. For reservations, call 534-2502.

  • Launched in September of '97, les journées de la culture www.journeesdelaculture.qc.ca have been the setting of a multitude of cultural events and activities throughout Québec. This year, les journées de la culture will take place on September 26, 27 and 28. On this occasion, the City of Bromont will proceed with the official presentation of Bromont's Cultural policy.   • Your little ones need to spend some energy? La Commission scolaire Val-des-Cerfs sends out this invitation to all its students : on September 27th, take part in a cross-country running competition at la Chantignole school. Prizes and medals will be awarded during this second edition of " Kilo-Maître ". Subscriptions start at noon on the same day of the event, the race starts at 1 pm. The subscription fee is 2$.   • Some of you may know Les Jazzeries, a Bromont based jazz choir, from one of their concerts given in and around Bromont. The singing group will be performing in Saint-François-Xavier church on Sunday September 28th for the Journées de la culture. If you are a true fan of the group, you will be pleased to know that you can see Les Jazzeries in a full concert at La Maison de la culture de Waterloo www.maisondelaculturedewaterloo.com on October 17th and 18th.

  • You are currently seeking a new job or thinking of changing your career? Le Salon Priorité-emploi will take place on September 26 and 27 at the Cégep de Granby. More than 40 businesses, companies and organizations will be on the premises to offer job opportunities and valuable information on employment.

  • Just in time for your Christmas shopping, le Salon des artisans (arts and crafts fair) will take place on November 22nd and 23rd at le Centre communautaire. Bromonters who wish to present their personal work and master pieces are welcome to get in touch with Lyne Beaudry of Le Service des loisirs, de la culture et de la vie communautaire at 534-5617.

  • A reminder that the municipal tennis court will remain open until October 19th. Access to the court is free for Bromont residents. For more information, contact the SLCVC at 534-4414.
