News from City Council

  • Here are the main items of the City Council's meeting of April 7th:

    • The audited financial statements for year ending December 31st 2002 were presented. The city posted a $575 000 surplus from current operations as well a drop in the debt from 22.7 millions in 2000 to 18.7 millions in 2002. View the report (in .pdf format).

    • A first for the audience and councillors attending last night's meeting : the presentation on a giant screen of documents related to subjects matters on the agenda. The idea is to facilitate a better understanding and comprehension of some of the main items covered at each meeting.

    • The council approved the choice of a floral emblem for Bromont. This choice came about as a result of a contest organised by the Club horticole de Bromont. The Amelanchier canadensis (Canada serviceberry) was selected as the most popular choice among voters who participated in the selection process.

    • Starting next month, the agenda of each council meeting will be posted on the Bromont website the morning of every meeting day.

    • Following a request made by some residents, the City council has commissioned the Manager of public works to negociate the set up of 2 pedestrian crossings from Windsor street. One will lead to the Centre sportif et culturel and the second to Les Sommets de Bromont shopping mall.

    • Residential development in Bromont is doing better than ever. A total of 32 permits were handed out last month which brings the grand total to 72 permits for the first part of the year. These permits represent a total investment of 6 millions $ for Bromont. View the latest statistics on residential development in Bromont.

  • The project Bromont collectivité ingénieuse was chosen to be one of the three finalists in the category «Partenariat stratégique - OSBL» for the OCTAS handed out by la Fédération de l'informatique du Québec. The goal of this annual contest is to promote excellency in the field of information technology throughout Québec.

  • A concert to benefit the BMP Hospital featuring L'Orchestre symphonique de la Montérégie will be held Saturday May 17th at 8 p.m. at the Saint-François-Xavier church during the Chocolate Fest of Bromont event. You may purchase tickets by calling City Hall at 534-2021.

  • An invitation to all citizens who want to get involved in the process of elaborating a cultural policy for Bromont: a public meeting is scheduled for Saturday April the 16th at 9 a.m. at City Hall. For more information, contact the Service des loisirs, de la culture et de la vie communautaire at 534-4414.

  • Le Mondial du vélo is currently seeking volonteers for this season's many events. The first event, The 12 hours of Bromont will take place Sunday May 18th as part of the festivities surrounding the Coupe Canada/Coupe Québec from May 16th to May 18th. View complete schedule.

  • Are you looking for a good deal? Be sure not to miss the Super garage sale May 3rd at the Bromont Aréna from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. See what other events the Service des loisirs, de la culture et de la vie communautaire has to offer in the weeks to come.

  • Le Club de Bridge's summer schedule will be effective starting Thursday May 1st from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. You can contact the Club for more information at 534-1618.

  • The organisation GAB (regroupement des Gens d'affaires de Bromont) will hold a luncheon at La petite auberge santé on april 16th at noon.
