Summer is finally here, with its family barbecues and afternoons by the pool. Because our readers enjoy knowing what special events are taking place, we are pleased to offer you our July newsletter.


News from City Council

  • Here are the main items of the City Council's meeting of July 7th:

    • The Council has promoted Jean Bourgeois to the rank of Police Captain. With interim director sergeant Yvon Allard, the senior staff of the Bromont Police Department is complete.

    • As part of the public works fleet renewal, the City has purchased a new snow removal truck.

    • In order to help the construction and zoning department in this record year of new residential construction, City Council has contracted the services of Mrs. Marie-Claude Morrissette, a town-planning specialist.

    • The Council voted a resolution congratulating Mr. Michel Martin, lieutenant at the Fire department and long-time volunteer in the Bromont community. Mr. Martin was appointed personality of the week by the daily newspaper La Voix de l'Est.

  • The last computer training course ended just a few weeks ago and the «Bromont ville branchée» team is already planning the fall semester. A real success story for the project, many Bromont residents once again took advantage of the free training program. You missed our last course offering? Not to worry, our August newsletter will inform you on what is coming up for September.

  • If Wimbledon turned you into a passionate tennis player, you may be pleased to know the municipal tennis court located near the Arena is available for all Bromonters. For more details, contact the "Service des loisirs, de la culture et de la vie communautaire" at 534-4414. You may also become a member of the Bromont tennis league. For more information, get in touch with Mr. Paul Johnston at 266-2489.

  • The "Club horticole de Bromont" organizes a tour of Bromonters garden's Sunday July 13th. The event starts at 9 a.m. with a visit of the SpaConcept and Chateau Bromont gardens, followed by a visit of surrounding homes. Consult the Club horticole web site for details on the upcoming "Concours maisons fleuries", 2003 edition.

  • The Bromont Fire department is seeking candidates to fill a few volunteer firemen jobs. If you think you have what it takes, call the Fire department at 534-4777 for more information.

  • Residents of the Lac Bromont area are invited to join a new walking club. The club meets 3 times a week at 27 du Chevreuil street. Schedule is the following : Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings at 8:30 a.m. Welcome to everyone!

  • The "Beaux dimanches" concerts season is well under way. The July schedule is:

    • Sunday July 14th : Musicians Mathieu Viens and Charles Proteau offer folk music.

    • Sunday July 20th : Serge Lavertu and Françoise Turcotte play classic tunes on the guitar and the violin.

    • Sunday July 27th : Denis Gingras Duo sing and play your favorites Beatles songs.

    • Sunday August 3rd : Thierry Bégin-Lamontagne, exceptionnal classic guitar.

      Concerts start at 4 p.m. in the John-Savage park. In case of rain, the concert are held in the Arena.

  • The North-American Masters Track Championships will not be held this year at the Olympic Velodrome since organizers have cancelled the event that was scheduled July 11th to the 13th.

  • Lac Bromont has an area available for all bowls players to meet and share a game or two… The playing ground is located at the crossing of de l'Horizon and du Chevreuil streets. You can get in touch with Mrs. Vaillancourt at 263-1664 for more information.

  • From July 24th to the 27th, the Bromont country music festival Farfest will be on at the Flea Market site. Shows and activities for everyone. Visit the website www.farfestbromont.com for all the details.

  • The Foster equestrian competition will take place Sunday July 27th at the Olympic equestrian site. All those who wish to attend are welcome since admission is free for all spectators.
