For those who think that summer comes to an end as we turn over July's page from our calendar, we are pleased to present August's newsletter which is filled with special events and activities to help you enjoy the last days of summer. Forget all about the school supplies that have already taken every single store by storm because there is still a little time left to have some summer time fun!


News from City Council

  • The last few months were very successful in terms of residential growth in Bromont. As such, new residential projects have emerged. New developments mean new streets. The street names for Le Carré des Pins were chosen to reflect Bromont's environment which allows residents to pratice many different sports and activities. Therefore, "Les skieurs", "Les nageuses" and "Les cavalière", will now join "Des golfeurs" and "Des randonneurs".

Bromont ville branchée

  • The popular Bromont ville branchée computer training program will be back this fall. Courses are available for both beginners are more skilled computer users. Although courses were given in english last year, for the time being, courses are available in french only. You are welcomed to contact Bromont ville branchée by email or by phone at 534-2662 for more information regarding the courses in english. If you wish to subscribe to one of the courses offered in french, you must do so in person at the Café Internet located at 50, de Gaspé street, either on Tuesday August 26 from 6:30 pm to 9 pm or Wednesday August 27th from 9 am to noon. The costs for the 7 weeks semester are $25 including note book.

  • Families of the Les Patriotes residential development are invited to this year's annual picnic. The event will take place Saturday August 9th, starting at 2 pm. You can get in touch with Annie Gaudreau at 534-3089 or Julie Marchand at 534-1056 for more information.

  • Le Service des loisirs, de la culture et de la vie communautaire is proud to offer this fall's and winter's guide to community activities. Find out if the yoga class you were so eager to take is once again available by reading the complete guide which is now available online. Take note that the subscription period will take place from August 20th to September 6th. A printed version of the guide will be mailed to all residents in the days to come.

  • The Club Horticole de Bromont has launched a new contest. Gardeners are invited to send pictures of the evolution of their landscaping projects. By doing so, participants will a have chance at winning diner for two at Le Royal Bromont's Cellier du Roy. All the details of "Mon jardin à l'été 2003" contest are posted on the Club Horticole's website. The Club's next activity on the agenda August 26th : a workshop titled "Bouturage et hivernation de plantes annuelles" (How to plant cuttings and winter annuals) given by Mrs Pelletier, florist at La Panière. Visit the club's website for more information on activities scheduled in the next few weeks.

  • Artists from Bromont and abroad will be pleased to share with visitors their passion during the 5th presentation of the Symposium d'arts visuels Bromont en art. Both outdoors and indoors exhibitions will take place August 15-17th at Jonh-Savage park and Saint-John church.

  • Héma-Québec and the mayor invite you to Bromont's annual blood donors clinic on August 18th. Volunteers will be waiting for you from 2 pm to 8 pm at the Centre communautaire located on Compton street. The goal to reach this year is 145 donors.

  • August 19th to the 24th, the Olympic site will host Le Championnat des Amériques 2003. Over 300 young riders will compete in this international equestrian event. Many family activities on the premises. Free tickets are available for Bromont residents (limit of 4). You are invited to get tickets in person at City Hall during regular opening hours or at the police station from 8 am to 8 pm. Tickets can also be requested by email (provide your mailing information) at loisirs@bromont.com.

  • This summer's big mountain bike event definitely is the UCI World Masters Championships. From August 27th to September 1st, competitors from more than 24 countries will certainly put up a great show as they race down the trails of SkiBromont.com. Come and cheer their performance, access is free for all spectators.

  • Display of sportsmanship and stamina are certainly assets of great value when competing in the 24 hour's of Bromont challenge. Official starting time for this competition: Sunday August 31st at 11 am. How many laps of a specific cross-country mountain bike course can be achieved in 24 hours? Spectators are welcomed (free access) to find out the answer for themselves!

  • The committee in charge of elaborating the family policy for Bromont will soon be back at work. Citizens' groups collaboration will then be needed in order to gather information that the comity may use as input to first assess Bromont's situation.   • Still a few weeks left to appreciate local talents offering enjoyable performances at Les Beaux dimanche de Bromont. Concerts take place each Sunday afternoon at 4 pm in John-Savage park.
    • August 10 : Johanne Bégin and Richard Lamontagne
    • August 17 : Blues music at its best with Blue's Cream directed by Bernard D'Anjou
    • August 25 : Marie-Annick offers voice and double-bass performance
    • August 31 : son 2003. Last concert of the season. Traditionnal folk music by Le groupe Maluré.

    A reminder that even on rainy days, concerts are presented indoors at the Arena.
