OPERATION - UNIDIRECTIONAL FLUSHING OF THE WATERWORKS SYSTEM
During the year, we are required to flush the City's entire waterworks
system.
WHY
?
This
operation allows us to remove from the system any particles or
pieces of debris that might has adhered to the walls of the pipes
that make up the system. An operation of this kind is also necessary
to improve the general condition of the system.
The
speed at which the water travels through the system is momentarily
increased and the soiled water is then flushed out through the
fire hydrants. The operation consists of a sequence of predetermined
flushings which insure a better cleaning.
This
work may cause a temporary decrease in water pressure, or possibly
a temporary closure of the system as well as a slight discolouration
of the water. During this operation it is recommended to check
the water for discolouration before making use of it.
What
to do if the water is "rusty" or "white" ?
The
City of Bromont recommends that you simply open the tap and allow
the water to run until the water colour returns to normal.
Don't
forget to check the water in any apparatus that uses water before
making use of it.
This
major operation will be conducted across the City (the work is
done sector by sector); it may be therefore that your water will
be discoloured at different times.
You
may continue to wash clothes and dishes outside of the hours when
the work will be conducted i.e. between 5:00 p.m. and 7:30 a.m.
throughout the week.
We
suggest that you not use Javel water as this has the effect of
causing the rust to set in the cloth.
We
regret any inconvenience caused by this operation and thank you
for your cooperation.
